A Scholar Fueled by Opportunity:
CJ graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Morehouse College. His academic journey was fueled by scholarships from NASA, the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House. These awards not only bridged the financial gap but also mirrored his growing interest in sports, laying the groundwork for his future career path.
Discovering a True Calling:
After working at Apple and GEICO, CJ discovered his true passion in the sports industry. He pursued a Master's Degree in Sports Business at NYU, interning with prestigious organizations like the NY Mets, the Madison Square Garden Company, and MLB's Office of the Commissioner.
Building a Championship Resume:
CJ's first full-time role was with the New York Yankees in Sponsorship Services. He then transitioned to Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE), where he played a key role in securing major deals like the stadium naming rights, the first sports book in a US arena, and the team's inaugural jersey patch. During his time at MSE, CJ earned championship rings from his contributions to the team after both the Washington Capitals and the Washington Mystics won the championship.
Beyond Traditional Sports:
CJ's diverse experience extends beyond traditional sports. He worked with Excel Sports Management, where his team secured two jersey patch deals and an MLS naming rights deal. He then ventured into esports with the Atlanta FaZe, a professional Call of Duty team.
Championing Diversity in Sports:
For over five years, CJ served as the President of the Black Sports Professionals (BSP) chapters in Washington, DC, and Atlanta. During his tenure, he spearheaded two of the biggest BSP events ever held. He also grew the Atlanta chapter's social presence to have the largest reach of any BSP chapter, fostering a thriving community for members to network and fellowship. This dedication to empowering Black professionals in sports reflects CJ's commitment to giving back to the industry he loves.
